Find a song name on WhatsApp in just a few seconds
Someone sent a video with a great song? See how to find a song name on WhatsApp, get the lyrics and even play with audio effects, all inside the group.
Finding a song name on WhatsApp becomes a group mission whenever someone sends a video with a great soundtrack: one person writes "what song is this?", three others reply "I want to know too" and the conversation goes nowhere.
You can solve this without leaving the chat. In this post you will see the manual way, how Becca identifies the song, how she fetches the lyrics (even translated) and how to give the audio a squirrel voice just for fun.
The manual way to find a song
Without a bot, you have to search outside WhatsApp. You can open a music recognition app on another device while the video plays loudly, hum the tune to your phone's voice assistant, or search a piece of the lyrics in a search engine. It works, but it takes effort: playing the video, holding the phone near the speaker and repeating everything if the clip is short.
And the result stays with you. The rest of the group keeps asking the same thing, and the person who sent the video often does not remember the name either.
!shazam: the song identified in the group
With Becca in the group, reply to the audio or video with !shazam. If you are the one sending the video, you can write the command in the caption. She listens to the clip and replies with the cover art, the song name, the artist and a link. The answer appears in the chat for everyone, so the question ends right there. If she cannot recognize the song, she says she did not find it, and then it is worth trying another clip.
Step by step recognition
- Find the message in the group with the video or audio of the song
- Reply to that message by writing !shazam
- Wait a few seconds: Becca replies with the name and the artist
- Use !letra with the song name to see the full lyrics
Song lyrics, and translated ones
Found the name? Now the lyrics. Send !letra followed by the song name and Becca replies with the cover, the name, the artist, the release date (when it exists) and the full lyrics. To sing along without tripping, just copy them.
For songs in another language, use !letra-t: the lyrics come back translated into Portuguese (when a translation is available), so the group understands what is being sung. Example: !letra-t song name.
Already know the song name and only want the lyrics? Skip the recognition and go straight to !letra. The two commands work independently.
Tips for better recognition
Recognition depends on what is in the audio. If the clip is messy, the chance of a hit drops. A few tips:
- Prefer a clip where the song comes through clearly, not the start of the video when there is only talking
- Avoid pieces with party noise, shouting or wind on the microphone
- If the first try failed, reply to another video or another part of the same song
Like any music recognition, the result can fail or miss lesser-known tracks. When that happens, it is worth asking the person who sent the video for the original song name.
Tip: A clip where the music is cleaner, without a lot of talking over it, helps recognition. If the video has narration from start to finish, look for the original or another video with the same sound.
The fun part: audio effects
Song identified, time to play. Reply to any audio and Becca returns a modified version:
- !nightcore: the audio sped up, sped up style
- !grave: boosts the bass
- !esquilo: a squirrel voice
- !audiolento and !audiorapido: change the speed
- !audioreverso: plays the audio backwards
- !clarearvoz: makes the voice clearer
- !octasound: makes the sound move from one side of the headphones to the other
The effects work on any audio in the group, not just music, but not on video: if the song is in a video, pull the audio out first with !tomp3. A friend's voice note run through !esquilo tends to get laughs, and !audioreverso turns an ordinary sentence into an alien language.
A combo to try: !shazam finds it, !letra shows the lyrics and !nightcore speeds up the audio into the meme of the week.
