How to promote a WhatsApp group without attracting spam
Prepare the group, promote it sensibly, swap the link when it leaks and protect the door: the path to attracting people who actually stay.

Knowing how to promote a WhatsApp group is half the job for anyone who wants a lively community. The other half is what happens after the click: whoever joins and finds a messy group with no rules and no welcome tends to leave soon. Promotion without preparation only fills the house with people passing through.
This guide follows the order that works: fix up the group first, promote it sensibly, take care of the link, defend against people who show up just to cause trouble and give newcomers a reason to stay. No promises of thousands of members: what you can do is attract people who fit your group.
Prepare the group before promoting
People who click your link look first at the name, the photo and the description. If nothing there explains what the group is, they give up. In WhatsApp, tap the group name to edit all three. With Becca you can also do it from the chat:
- !nomegp: sets a clear name that tells the topic in a few words
- !descgp: writes the description with what the group is, who it is for and the main rules
- !fotogp: changes the group photo to an image that fits the theme (send the image with the command as the caption, or reply to the image with it)
Also write three to five short rules and pin the message at the top. People who arrive through promotion do not know anyone, and visible rules keep the first contact from being a scolding.
Get the welcome ready
A newcomer's first minute decides whether they stay. Set the message with !legendabv: Becca only sends something to new arrivals once it exists. !bemvindo is already on by default and !bemvindo 0 turns it off. Use the tags #numerodele#, which mentions the newcomer, and #nomedogp#, which inserts the group name.
Where to promote, with common sense
- Your own social networks: a pinned post or a story with the invite, saying what the group offers
- Your profile or website bio: the group link is always at hand for whoever arrives
- Partners and creators on the same topic, with a prior agreement and a fair exchange
- Events and physical places: a poster or a slide with the group QR code
- People already in the group: invite a friend who is genuinely interested in the topic
Avoid dropping links in other people's groups: besides annoying the admins there, it attracts people who have nothing to do with the topic. Promote where the interest already exists.
The link, the QR code and how to swap it when it leaks
In WhatsApp, the link is under Invite via link, inside the group info. With Becca as admin, just send !linkgp. To create a QR code for the invite, use !genqr with the link after it, and Becca sends back the image ready for the poster or the post.
If the link landed in the wrong place, such as a promotion group or a list site, swap it right away: !revogarlink creates a new link and the old one stops working. In the app, the path is Invite via link, Reset link. People who already joined stay in the group.
The side effect of open promotion
An open link attracts all kinds of people. Among the genuinely interested ones come promoters, fake profiles and foreign numbers that join only to send ads. The more public the invite, the sooner this starts. Three layers help:
- Approve new members, in WhatsApp: instead of joining directly, each person waits for your approval
- !antifake: removes on entry anyone with a country code that is not allowed. By default only 55 (Brazil) gets through, and !addddi allows others, such as 351 for Portugal
- !antilink: deletes links instantly, and !addlink allows the ones you want to permit
!antifake applies to anyone who joins, even people an admin adds. !antilink, on the other hand, ignores admins and anyone on the !autorizar list. Both stay on duty 24 hours a day, including late at night, when no admin is watching.
How to keep the people who join
Promotion brings people in; what keeps them is a reason to come back. Keep a rhythm: one topic a day, a poll with !enquete, a notice mentioning everyone with !hidetag when something important comes up. Reply to newcomers in their first hours and find a way to turn the new arrival into a participant by asking what they are looking for in the group.
Tip: Ask newcomers to introduce themselves right in the welcome message. A direct invitation, with an easy question to answer, breaks the ice better than waiting for the person to take the first step.
Next step
Before promoting again, fix the name, the description and the photo, set the welcome message and pick one promotion channel at a time. If you want the front door protected and the welcome on autopilot, add Becca: R$ 15 per month per group, with no lock-in, to have antifake, antilink and the welcome message ready before the first invite.
