A church group on WhatsApp helps the community stay close during the week: service notices, prayer requests, ministry schedules, cell group messages. Well cared for, it becomes an extension of hospitality. Left alone, it collects dubious chain messages, strange links and notices lost in the middle of the day.

This guide is for pastors, cell group leaders and ministry coordinators. Nothing like a technical manual: just what to do to welcome people, announce without noise, share tasks and keep the environment safe.

Welcome visitors from the start

People who arrive in a church group are often taking a first step. Being greeted by name, with the schedule, the address and someone to look for, changes how they feel. In WhatsApp, Approve new members lets the leadership know who is joining.

With Becca, turn on !bemvindo and write the text with !legendabv. Put #numerodele# where the newcomer should be called out and #nomedogp# where the group name goes. Swap in the day, time and name of your church or cell group: the sample below shows how the message arrives.

In practice
๐Ÿ™ Welcome, @newcomer! We are glad to have you in Hope Cell Group. We meet on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. If you have any questions, talk to the leadership.

Service notices and daily reminders

A good share of the members keep the group on silent, and the important notice still has to reach them. An admin uses !hidetag to call everyone without a string of @ names in the middle of the message: it works for service times, location changes and event schedules. Also pin a message with the month's agenda for reference.

For a reminder that repeats, Becca has automatic messages: turn them on with !msgautomatica and create, for example, !addmsgauto Time for a pause to pray. Share your request here | 06:00. The text goes before the bar and the time after it, and the message goes out every day at that hour. Since scheduling is daily, it suits a morning prayer or a verse of the day. For Sunday service, send the notice with !hidetag on Friday or Saturday.

Schedules, tasks and dates

A fixed ministry schedule can be saved with !anotar Worship schedule | names and dates. Notes are an admin tool: when someone asks, the leadership sends !nota, picks the number from the list and Becca posts the schedule in the group. For simple tasks, like who brings snacks to the cell group, !sorteiogrupo draws one member in front of everyone. Becca announces it as a raffle ('You won the raffle...'), so have fun with the text: !sorteiogrupo Friday cell group snacks.

When choosing a date, instead of reading twenty loose answers, use a poll. In WhatsApp it is under the attachment clip; with Becca, an admin creates it with !enquete Best day for the youth meeting? | Friday | Saturday | Sunday. The votes are counted for everyone, and the leadership decides based on what the group answered.

A light moment with biblical advice

A church group also needs a breather. !conselhob sends biblical advice to the chat and can become a small moment in the middle of the week, without a sermon. Any member can ask for it, with nothing to enable first, and the advice texts come in Portuguese. It brightens the conversation, but it does not replace pastoral care or personal conversation.

Protect the community from scams and improper content

A church group is an easy target for fake profiles asking for money and dubious links posing as offering campaigns. The built-in precautions are approving new members and resetting the invite link if it leaked. Reinforce with the leadership: nobody asks for money privately on behalf of the church, and financial details only go through official channels.

With Becca as a group admin, !antilink deletes links and !addlink allows the church's official website or channel (each address the church uses has to be allowed). !antiporno analyzes images with AI and deletes pornographic ones. !antifake removes on entry anyone with a country code other than Brazil's, the only one allowed by default. If you have missionaries or members abroad, allow their country with !addddi. !antilink and !antiporno ignore admins and authorized members; !antifake looks at the number of whoever joins and does not check that list.

Announcements-only group or conversation group

It is worth deciding the purpose. An announcements group works best with Group settings, Send messages, Only admins: the leadership posts and members just read. With Becca, !fechargp closes it right away and !abrirgp reopens it when there is room for conversation, like after an event.

And if you do not want members triggering commands, !soadm keeps commands for admins only. That way the notice group does not become a stage for jokes at the wrong time.

Tip: Write the welcome message thinking of someone who has never been to the church: schedule, address and the name of someone to look for. Details like that bring visitors back.

Next step

Define the purpose of the group, write the welcome message and pin the month's agenda. If you want hospitality, reminders and protection to run without depending on anyone on the team, add Becca: R$ 15 per group per month, no lock-in, paid by Pix or card.
