Foreign numbers in a WhatsApp group: how to block and remove them

Did a +1, +62 or +92 number join your group to send scams? Learn why it happens and how to block and clear foreign numbers with a few commands.

Foreign numbers in a WhatsApp group are one of the most common headaches for anyone running a large community: suddenly a +1, a +62 or a +92 joins without saying hello, and minutes later the group is full of investment links, invites to other groups and scam messages.

The good news is that you can close that door without turning into a nightclub bouncer. This guide shows why these numbers show up, what WhatsApp itself offers, and how Becca blocks and cleans out those contacts automatically.

Why these numbers show up

The country code is the prefix at the start of a phone number: Brazil is 55, the United States is 1, Indonesia is 62, Pakistan is 92. When a Brazilian group gets several foreign country codes at once, the reason is usually one of these:

  • A leaked invite link: the link ended up in another group, on a social network or on a website, and anyone can use it
  • Group lists: sites and channels that collect group links can carry your link to people looking for places to send scams
  • Disposable numbers: scammers tend to join, drop the link or the request for money and disappear, without caring about losing the number

The more open the entrance, the more of these visits you get. The fix has two parts: close the door and have something checking the number of everyone who arrives.

Start with what WhatsApp already offers

Three built-in settings already reduce the problem a lot, and none of them costs anything:

  • Who can add members: let only admins add new people
  • Approve new members: anyone who joins through the link waits for your approval, and you see the number before accepting
  • Invite via link, Reset link: if the link leaked, generate a new one and the old one stops working

The limit of the manual way is your time. Approving one by one works in a small group, but in a big one you would need to be online all day, and the scammer who joins at 3 a.m. stays until someone notices. In the chat, Becca helps with the link: !linkgp shows the current link and !revogarlink replaces it with a new one.

Block them at the door with !antifake

With Becca as an admin of the group, !antifake checks the number of every person who joins. By default only country code 55 (Brazil) is allowed: anyone arriving with any other code is removed right away, without waiting for anyone to notice. To turn it on, send !antifake 1. To turn it off, send !antifake 0.

The removal at the door is quiet: Becca takes the number out and moves on, without filling the group with notices. The rule applies to everyone who joins, including people an admin adds, so allow the country code before bringing in a friend from abroad.

Allow countries when your group needs them

Not every Brazilian group has only numbers starting with 55. If yours has people living in Portugal or in the United States, allow those codes:

  • !addddi 351 allows Portugal
  • !addddi 1 allows the United States (and Canada, which uses the same code)
  • !ddis lists the extra country codes you allowed (55 is already allowed)
  • !rmddi 351 removes a code from the allowed list

Allow only what the group really uses. Every extra code is one more open door.

Clean up who is already in the group

!antifake only acts on people who join after it is turned on. Anyone already inside stays. To clean up:

  • !listabr shows the Brazilian numbers in the group, good for checking before removing anyone
  • !bangringos removes the non-Brazilian numbers already in the group, one by one, every 2 seconds, and skips admins

Heads up: !bangringos does not look at the list of allowed country codes, it removes everything that does not start with 55. In a group with Brazilians living abroad, do not use it: remove the intruders one by one with !ban.

In practice
๐Ÿงน Removed 7 number(s) from the group successfully.

Repeat offenders: use the blacklist

Some people come back with the same number after being removed. !addlistanegra @member puts the person on the blacklist: if they join again, Becca removes them immediately. To manage it, use !listanegra (who is on it), !rmlistanegra (take someone off) and !limparlistanegra (clear everything).

Tip: If !antifake seems not to work, the first thing to check is whether Becca is an admin of the group. Without that she cannot remove anyone.

Next step

Today: turn on Approve new members, reset the link if it has been circulating, and let only admins add people. Then, so you do not depend on anyone being online, add Becca to the group (R$ 15 per group per month, no lock-in, Pix or card), make her an admin, send !antifake 1 and allow only the country codes your group needs. If the group is 100% Brazilian, finish with a !bangringos and leave the rest to her.
